Hunting Chat

The forest and field are my temple, do not desecrate it, either with word or deed. The fish and the fowl, the squirrel and the deer, all animals our kin, flesh formed by God. Go then in humility and respect in pursuit of your game, and gratefully accept the gift when you are successful. Do not be forgetful that it is God who is the gracious giver. Do your part to harvest cleanly, and fully utilize what is given, in humble spirit and respectful honor. Most of all revel in the creation, and lead others there as well. Teach the unknowing that hunting is not about killing, that a harvest is a melancholy thing, joy and sorrow, accomplishment and death. Hold fast to the hunting heritage, and be a good witness in word and deed, for it is our children who will be the poorer if all is lost. Take time to rest, then, in the embrace of nature, and enjoy the symphony of bird song and chorus of the wind, breath yourself out, and breath nature in.
